Book Review: A Lie For A Lie by Helena Hunting

'We kiss like we've been starving for each other'
Blurb:
Sometimes I need an escape from the demands, the puck bunnies, and the notoriety that come with being an NHL team captain. I just want to be a normal guy for a few weeks. So when I leave Chicago for some peace and quiet, the last thing I expect is for a gorgeous woman to literally fall into my lap on a flight to Alaska. Even better, she has absolutely no idea who I am.
Lainey is the perfect escape from my life. My plan for seclusion becomes a monthlong sex fest punctuated with domestic bliss. But it ends just as abruptly as it began. When I’m called away on a family emergency, I realize too late that I have no way to contact Lainey.
A year later, a chance encounter throws Lainey and me together again. But I still have a lie hanging over my head, and Lainey’s keeping secrets of her own. With more than lust at stake, the truth may be our game changer.

Review:
I'm going to start this off admitting that I am a sucker for sports romance. This book was no exception. This story was full of steam and angst. One thing I will mention about this book *spoilers ahead* -seriously stop reading now if you don't want spoilers- was that is had what has to be one of my least favourite tropes of all time in it, the accidental/secret pregnancy. I really dislike this plot line. I always feel as though it almost ruins some of the romance for me. As much as I love the couple I will always be wondering if they would have ended up together if they didn't have a baby. Despite this, I love anything that involves sexy hockey players. And RJ embodies that perfectly. RJ is a major star of the NHL and is a former playboy/manwhore. He is used to girls throwing themselves as him and doing crazy things to keep his attention. This is why his connection with Lainey is so special, she doesn't know who he is. They meet on a plane to Alaska and hit it off from there. Lainey is a very shy, nerdy and absolutely adorable character. Their romance certainly is a whirlwind but they definitely suit each other perfectly. This book is essentially a second chance romance. Lainey and RJ meet in Alaska and spend some super sexy nights there but once they separate they don't reconnect until a chance meeting 14 months later. I really like following along as they reconnected and essentially fell in love again.

Overall I gave this book 4 ⭐'s. See below for one of my favourite quotes!
'And just like every single other kiss that’s had the intention of becoming more—and even the ones that didn’t—it starts out sweet. She tastes the same, feels the same—but better. She feels like mine and home and love'
